Cashew festival in Bangalore (India) to promote domestic consumption

In an effort to promote domestic marketing of cashewnuts, the Karnataka Cashew Manufacturers Association (KCMA) is holding a five-day cashew festival at Palace Ground, Bangalore, from October 1 to 5. In a press release, K Pramod Kamath, secretary, KCMA said the Indian domestic market had shown tremendous potential on the consumption front. If the trend was to be believed, India was growing at almost 20% compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) in the last three years. The country is estimated to consume 1.75 lakh tonnes of cashewnuts which is the highest in the world. This is in spite of the industry having made no efforts in their marketing so far. The US which had the global leadership position in cashew consumption, is consuming only 1.35 lakh tonnes. He said there was a myth that cashews have high fat content which is not good for health. In order to make available to the public the fact on nutritional aspects and various health benefits from its consumption, the KCMA has decided to organize a five-day cashew festival from October 1 to 5.
