Russia's nut exports to drop

Exports of the Russian nuts have reduced almost two-fold since the start of 2009, Russian media currently reports. Over the first half of the current year the Russia's volume of exports has decreased in physical terms by 72%, while in value terms – by 87%. Until recently the key sales markets of the Russian nuts have been the CIS countries, Ukraine and Belarus especially. But since the start of the financial crisis the demand for the Russian products has dramatically dropped.Other sorts of nuts including pignoli and other sorts of nuts account for almost all the export volume. Their share in the Russia’s export structure accounts for 98,1%. OOO “Pinta-M” takes the leading position in the producer-based export structure in terms of value. In turn, the import of nuts to Russia, decreased 19% at the last year-end. Pistachio, hazel-nuts, almond, walnuts, cashew and coconuts are mainly imported to Russia. The fresh or dried pistachio nuts take the biggest share in the import structure of nuts by sorts. Their share accounts for almost 30% of the total nuts import. The almond's share accounts for around 15%. The shares of walnuts and cashew are almost the same. The pistachio nuts, obviously ahead of the other sorts of nuts, have demonstrated the biggest import growth rates. Vietnam takes the first place among the key importer countries. Indonesia, the Philippines, Bolivia and Brazil come next. The volume of nuts processing and preserving grew 23% at the last year-end, that is not too high, because in the past years the nuts and fruit processing was growing by over half per year. Among the major regions processing and potting fuit and nuts, Krasnodarsky region is in the fist place accounting for more than half of the total production output. The Novosibirsk region, the Moscow region and Moscow are coming next. Overall they account for almost 34%.
