Exchanging rice for cashew nuts

The Vietnam Cashew Association (Vinacas) has petitioned the Government to exchange 100,000 tons of rice for 100,000 tons of raw cashew nuts a year with African countries, said representative at a Vinacas congress on May 15.
The exchange program will be benefit Vietnam and such countries as Cote d’lvoire, Guinea Bissau and Mozambique, the representative added. At the Congress, Vinacas said the association had encouraged members to build cashew nut plantations, such as underwriting market prices, providing seeds and seeding technology, as well as creating cashew nut plantations in Cambodia to reduce costs. Vinacas will strive to achieve a US$1 billion export turnover and increase processing high-value-added pruducts by two to three percent. The association also hoped to increase domestic demand by two to three percent.
